Lord of the Flies
During the upcoming weeks, you will be studying The Lord of the Flies. During the unit, you will complete in class projects, discussion activities, vocabulary, and you will be required to complete discussion questions and vocabulary activities for homework.
You must keep everything handed to you, as you will compile it at the end of the unit and make a literary portfolio.
Requirements for the Literary Portfolio:
Front cover:
- Artistic representation of the book and it must include the title and author
Inside:
- Table of contents
- General summary of the book that doesn’t give away the entire plot. Encourage others to read the book. Minimum length ½ page
- 6-8 sentence paragraph describing each of the main characters.
- Six quotes from the book that are especially important to the advancement of the novel. Write the quote, include the page number of quote, tell who said it, and then in 2-3 sentences tell why the quote is important.
- Include the 10 vocabulary words you think are most important to the story. Define them, tell what part of speech they are, and use them in a sentence.
- A diary entry from the point of view of Ralph, Piggy, Jack or Simon. ½ page minimum.
- Write (copy) the lyrics to a song that details a theme in LOTF. After writing the lyrics, write a 4-6 sentence paragraph explaining why the song you have chosen reflects a theme of TKAM and tell which theme it reflects. Clean lyrics only!
- Artistic and/or creative details that make the inside appealing.
Back page:
- One quote by you telling why others should read this book. Minimum 4 sentences.
- Your name and hour. Do not put your name anywhere else in the book except this very last page.
Extra Credit options:
- During the unit, you may turn in an illustrated character with at least two quotes to describe him/her.
- At any time, bring in and explain one historical event that occurred during the timeline of the novel.
